Culture differences may be the most important reason that causes students to plagiarize. In my high school’s Chinese class, our teacher told us to cite from famous people in our articles, the more the better. But we never note where the sentence comes from or who write it; we just use it directly. It has become a custom for me. I think this culture difference may easily lead to plagiarism in American study. Besides the objective factor, laziness of student self also affects. To be honest, in china, many students know what is cheating but they still do it, because they are lazy.
To prevent such problems, there are many ways. First, Holding an orientation can be a good idea. Take myself for an example. Before I went to US, I am concerned about the plagiarism. I am not familiar with that and do not know what to do about that. After I arrived the ohio state university, the first activity I took part in is orientation, which introduced the school for me and also talked about the plagiarism. It was the first time I touched with plagiarism. And I know what is plagiarism and where to find the principle for students. That is a good start for international students. Second, during our study, deeper conversations between teachers and students also help to avoid plagiarism. Finally, it is the responsibility for students to write their own papers and be care about the potential misconducts when they writing.
