Blog #6, Plagiarism Issue, SHENG LU

In recent years, with the increasing amount of international student among american educational institution especially university, avoiding of academic misconduct is being reemphasized again with a great concern on it from every aspect, even though academic norm has been a serious issue for a long time. In my essay, I am going to focus on discussing the reason why do students, international students particularly, still plagiarize or some other academic misconduct behaviors while they were aware of the rule. In my consideration, different culture backgrounds is one of the most fundamental reasons causing academic misconduct. Because, obviously people from different culture background have different understanding of plagiarism. Take myself as an example, while I was in primary school, plagiarism is a serious issues mentioned but not carried out rather effectively. To some extent, people in china acquiesce this behaviors because we could download something on internet without paying for it.

The second reason is about misunderstanding while being taught before starting their university life. For example, some students are not very fluent using communicate with English, or in other words, they may not exactly understand what the rule is, what they can do, what they cannot do, which making them confused about it resulting to the academic misconduct.

Finally, Technology is definitely a factor consisting of the reasons of academic misconduct. Because the convenience provided by technology make getting sources and information much more easily compared to what it was decades years ago. Unfortunately, some students my misuse this tool to accomplish their selfish purpose.
