As more international students commit plagiarism in university, it’s necessary to find some solutions to prevent those plagiarism issues in the future.
At first, to solve those problems, we need to know that compared to American students, why international students commit more academic misconducts. The main reason, I consider, is the differences of their ethic background. Take myself as an example. When I studied in Chinese high school, absolutely no teachers told me what is plagiarism and what is academic misconduct. Also, when I am doing my homework, Teachers never emphasize the importance of citation. I can copy the ideas on the textbooks freely. Moreover, In China, There is no law to protect intellectual property, which means I can download everything on the Internet without consideration to be jailed. In conclusion, Ethic background is the main reason why international students plagiarize more than American students.
The solution I give to this problem is to communicate more. As we discussed in the second paragraph, the main reason is ethic background of international students. If professor and faculties could talk with international students more about academic misconduct in university, those students would remember this serious problem profoundly. On the other hand, if someone doesn’t know whether he is or not committing a plagiarism, he should go to office to ask his professors or advisors to ask his concern. Finally, with the communication between both sides, we can solve this issue.
