I have been in Columbus for about one month. In other words, I have been experiencing american life for a time. So, in the second blog, I will talk about one aspect of my american life experience---taking COTA bus. This blog describes the taste of taking a bus trip, provides some tips for taking a bus in columbus and express some of my feelings.
Today, Oct 1st, I took a so-called bus trip in columbus. Why is so-called? Because I just got on a bus and didnot off until the bus went back to the stop I started. Actually the trip was long!
Taking a bus in columbus is a little different from in china. I will give some advise which may be helpful in this paragraph. It may be already known by us that OSU students can take COTA for free if they show their buck IDs to the driver. However, I learn more than that today. First, the most important, if you want to get off in the next stop, you should pull a yellow line above you. Then a sound‘stop requested’will be heard, otherwise, the bus won't stop if nobody stand in the stop. Secon
d, if you don't have or forget your buck ID, you can also use cash but no change. Local bus is $1.75 and express is $2.50. Put you paper money under a scanner, and throw your coins into a box in the left. Then you'll get a ticker, which can be used for transfer in 2 hours. That means you won'y
pay twice in 2 hours. Awesome! Finally, known to all, keep your arm in!!!
From the bus trip, I not only learned the thing above, but also recepted the culture of america. Just as everyone says, people in america are enthusiastic. They are willing to talk to even strangers. People often greet to the driver when they get on and say thanks or have a good day when they get off. That really makes people feel warm. Another thing is that all the things are human centered in america. Some designs in bus are convenience for people, like the board for wheel chairs and the bicycle frame in front of the bus, which all show american people always put themselves in others' shoes to provide convenience. Enthusiasm, obliging are two culture I flet from this bus trip.
Though the bus broke down and run slowly during the trip, I love the trip. Because it is also a culture trip and makes me love america more!
