#2 Yakun Li- Hocking Hill Trip

Experiencing the nature landscape in south Columbus is what I did last weekend to get involved in American life. This trip, organized by IFI, was called Hocking Hill Trip and the most famous spot was the Old Man's Cave. This was the first time I went off campus to explore the new things in Columbus, which made me really excited.

Driving for one and a half hour, we finally arrived at the foot of the hill. The fresh and cool air,
towering trees, all kinds of huge rocks covered with cute moss, echo of steam and falls, made it such a wonderful place. Another amazing thing was lots of families brought their dog hiking together which made this quiet place vivid and became a real paradise, combined nature and humanity. Walking through the winding path in the hill, I felt familiar with this kind of scenery because nature world was no boundary. It is the artificial things that divide the world into different pieces.

The old man's cave is a place that probably a man lived in years ago. How romantic it sounds! The cave maintains a proper temperature for the whole year since it is located in the valley, surrounded by trees and covered by soil. Though built by the power of nature, it had the shape of different rooms, which can be imagined as living room, kitchen and bedrooms. It was funny that someone said the reason why this man's "house" had three exits was that he could escape from all kinds of danger living in forest as quickly as possible.

This hocking hill trip was definitely a feast for eyes and it was so special to have a hiking in American way. Giving a ride to other people, bringing lunch, less photos and more chatting, finding no-stairs paths, enjoying hiking with children and dogs, are all American styles. I appreciate the chance and the ride provided by IFI. This trip is really worthwhile and memorable.
