Food, My Favorite - Yupeng

Today, I would like to share my experience on food with you. As everyone in class knows, I love eating. And the reason has to date back to when I was a little girl. My parents traveled a lot for business, and they always brought some delicious candy and snacks from everywhere they went. Having so much amazing delicacies, I have gained a great interest in food. Since Junior high school, I spent almost all my living expense on having meals and trying out food that is new to me.

I have already had various dishes of different countries. My favorite is Japanese cuisine. They keep everything in their original flavor without too much cooking and processing. I love sushi, egg roll and BBQ eel most. The dishes of Southeast Asian are amazing too. The hot and sour flavor expresses me deeply at the first time, and I can't help myself thinking about it. It is not like the acid of vinegar, the sauce is fermented from tomatoes with a Fragrance of lemon. I like the food not only in beautiful restaurants but also food stands on street, like BBQ. Maybe they are a little dirty, but I don’t care, because they are so attractive.

Since I love eating that much, surely I like cooking, because I really enjoy the process and the happiness on people’s face when enjoying my food. I’m good at cooking chicken wings. Not fried as American tradition, I usually braise them with coke, ketchup or soy sauce, or steam them with pickles.

I chose my major because of my interest in food. As I grew up, I became curious about how the food could be produced and the differences among the different processing methods. So I begin my journey on food study. Since I haven’t taken any professional courses, let me talk about my previous major in China, Food Quality and Safety. We do lots of experiments on food quality analysis. It doesn’t help with the method of food production, but analyzing the composition of food, I could better understand the product, which may helpful in the future study. After three years of quality study, I change my major into Food Science to study more about the processing. I’m really excited about it. I attended a informative session of Nestle on Oct 18. They introduced the operation of company and show us many pictures about their daily work. Then, I drew a beautiful picture of my job in the future - manufacturing food, talking about food with specialist and showing the whole world what I made, which is my dream.

Another dream of mine is travelling around the world, having all Michelin Red Guide series, maybe learning how to cook them. In the guide, gourmets evaluate few famous restaurants with one to three stars. The three stars mark means excellence. The guide is well known as a bible of cuisine. It is said that the restaurant will have a great prosperous if listed on the guide.

That’s what I did, what I do, and what I dream.

  2. Yupeng, your experiences as a Food Science major broadens my horizons. Moreover, your blog has built me a passion for eating.I am really interested in the book that you introduced in the blog and also eager to have the feast too. As a digital story, it is a successful one because you attract my attention as a reader. However, the story can be more appealing if you can improve your structure variation and correct some grammar mistakes like changing"aside the road"into"food stands on street". I am looking forward to seeing your improvement in your future writings.
