As a Chinese, I can say I have quite good writing skills in my first language honestly and proudly. But unfortunately, I think I did bad job in writing English essays because I have such limited amount of vocabularies and syntax. In my paper, especially summary assignments, yon can see many simple incoherent sentences and inapposite words only American kids may use. When I worked on my summaries, I often felt nervous and embarrassing for I cannot find suitable words and sentence structures to paraphrase what I want to cite. To me, an international student instead of a native speaker, it seems impossible for me to find another word to replace the original one in resource. Reading more English books, learning more sophisticated words, and doing more practice may be a good strategy.
Last week I recorded my digital story. It was so wired for me to hear my own voice because it was totally different from what I thought. Frankly speaking, I like the story I wrote. The structure is clear, plot is compact, and the story is quite funny in some degree. I like humorous story so I try to make my story be humorous too. Another strategy I used to make my story be more attractive is giving culture examples. These examples may not only cause resonance among the international students, but also magnetize some Americans to figure out the culture gaps between China and the USA. Nevertheless, nothing can be perfect. My story is far from an engaging story. I still need some suggestions to improve it.
