【plagiarism tutorial】Qian Jiaxing

The online plagiarism tutorial in the website "esl.osu.edu/staff/bloch/plagiarism" presents ten frequent questions regarding plagirism. The first question concerns about whether it is allowed to hand in the same article to the different but very similar assignmetns. The answers show that although it is not plagiarism, it is not permitted in OSU. Stealing things from yourself is euqai to steal from others. The safest way is to ask teacher or just write a new paper. The ninth question extract two paragraghs from Bill C. Malone and George O. Carney. The latter one adds and change a few words from the former one, but seems same on the whole. It is considered to be plagiarized because too many words are copied. Carney should give credit to Malone.

From this tutorial, I learned that I had better to give credits to everything I cited, even taht is commen knowledge or I change some words, otherwise, ask teachers for the permission of anything risky. The situation in the ninth question is important for me. Because it provides me a example of bad paraphrase. Just adding one or two words is not enough. Students should not only change most words, but also sentence stuctures and the order. This experience helps me understand more about what is plagiarism, avoiding some misconducts in my later study to certain extent.
