1. Question: In your 106G course, you were asked to write a definition paper. When you entered 107G, you found that you had the same assignment, but the paper was a little longer. If you add a little to your old paper and hand it in, are you plagiarizing from yourself. What should you do?
A: We need ask 107g teacher what we should do.
If professor allow changing the same assignment, but the paper was a little longer. Then I can do it. It is the safest in all solutions.
B: Changing our old article and hand in it.
We couldn’t steal my paper, which is belonging to me. But this is belonging to self-plagiarism. In the OSU, it won’t call plagiarism, just a violation.
C: Writing a new paper and choosing a new topic.
It can avoid plagiarism whatever self-plagiarism.
In my opinion, I think we can write a new assignment, because we take this class just want to improve our English and improve our expression ability. So if we change 106g class’s assignment, this is no effect about our language expression. I have a good idea that we can write a new paper. Then if we have excess time, we could add a little to our old paper and hand it in. About plagiarism, I think that it belongs to self-plagiarism; because of both of this two articles are my story. If we want to change our paper, we need to indicate article where is coming from. If this article had published whatever belongs to anyone, we often should indicate author, citing some sentences that we have to illustrate it. Publish is means that the other people saw your article, they knows your point. But I think if self-article did not publish, so I think we need not to indicate where is the article coming from.
2、You suspect that one of your professors has taken something which you wrote for a course. Is this considered plagiarism?
A: Yes
We write anything that it belongs to us; even though, we take in for a class. Copying a paper taken in class is similar to coping a published paper, both this two phenomenon are belongs to plagiarism. Also, the professor will be attention to this situation.
B: NO
This phenomenon is belonging to plagiarism. Whatever this paper is published, belongs to plagiarism. Because of you write this paper, even to turn in for a class.
In my opinion, I think that it should be called plagiarism. But if the professor indicate this paper where is coming from. For instance: author、article’s title. I think if he did it, it will not belong to plagiarism. But, if he did not indicate the sentences, it will be a plagiarism, because of this paper is not written by him, he cite student’s paper. So, I suggest that if professor wants to use student’s article, he must indicate specific situation. Who write this article which is coming from.
